SciFest 2012 - Special Awards
SciFest@Intel ISEF Award
The Intel Best Project Award winners from each SciFest 2012 venue will be invited to exhibit at Intel in the autumn (SciFest@Intel). One project will be selected to represent Ireland at the International Science and Engineering Fair 2013 in Phoenix, Arizona; May 12-17. The teacher/mentor of this award will travel with the student/s.
All expenses will be paid.

Global Citizen and Sustainability Award
At each Institute of Technology the projects which are eligible for this award will be collected and passed on to a SciFest Judging panel. The panel will review all the projects from the 15 venues and will select one overall winner. The winner will be presented with a trophy and a cash prize of €300 at the Celebration of Excellence in Science and Launch of SciFest 2013 to be held in Intel Ireland in October 2012.
Discover Sensors Award*
Discover Sensors, a Junior Certificate Science support project of Discover Science and Engineering, is delighted to be involved in SciFest 2012 and will be presenting a Discover Sensors Award at each host Institute of Technology.
Criteria: The Discover Sensors award is presented to a project which demonstrates a high level of application of investigative science methodologies that include the innovative use of one or more sensors for the collection, recording and analysis of data.

Sustainable Energy Award**
The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland’s role is to transform Ireland into a society based on sustainable energy structures, technologies and practices. It has a vision of making Ireland a recognised global leader in sustainable energy. SEAI’s schools programme aims to help form good long term behaviours and attitudes to energy efficiency.
SEAI is delighted to sponsor an award that will encourage and reward thought, investigation, debate and action on the future of energy in Ireland and throughout the world.
Criteria: The award will be presented to the project that demonstrates one or more of the following:
- Energy efficiency in action
- Investigation into renewable energy
- Awareness raising of a topic related to sustainable energy
Discover Space Award***
The European Space Education Resource Office Ireland (ESERO Ireland) is a project co-funded by Discover Science and Engineering and the European Space Agency. The aim of the project is to use space as a theme to support the teaching of science and maths through the provision of resources, inspirational materials and training for teachers.
Criteria: The award is presented to the project which best uses Space as a theme in science, technology or maths.
