SciFest 2009 National Award Winners

SciFest 2009 was a huge success with nearly 2000 students exhibiting over 830 projects in 15 venues throughout Ireland.

Well done to all who participated – students, teachers, parents, judges and regional organisers. Thank you to all who sponsored prizes at each event and to all who played a role in making it possible. We hope to see you all again at SciFest 2010.

There were lots of awards to be won. The projects were of a very high standard so well done to all the deserving students who received awards.

Four major awards were presented at each Institute of Technology:

  • Best Project, sponsored by Intel Ireland
  • Runner-up Project, sponsored by Abbott Ireland
  • BT Best Communicator Award, sponsored by BT
  • Discover Sensors Award, sponsored by Discover Sensors (the best project in which the investigation involved substantial use of one or more digital sensors.)

Category prizes, display awards, and best communicator awards were also given and some of the Institutes of Technology presented trophies sponsored by the relevant Institute. Some Institutes initiated new awards, e.g. Enterprise Ireland Creation Award (AIT), NIBRT Award (Best Life Sciences Project) (ITT) and Dairymaster Ireland Best School Award (IT Tralee).

As part of the Discover Sensors Award the mentoring teacher of the winning project at each Institute of Technology received a laptop.
